Engineer Ashwaq Shafiq Jundiya, the martyr.
“Ashwaq will never be just a number; I will always remind the world of her.”
Ashwaq, the compassionate and kind-hearted, with a pure heart, was thirty years old. She studied architectural engineering and earned a master’s degree from the Islamic University in Gaza. She worked in various local and international institutions, too many to count, and held different positions. Her latest position was “Monitoring and Evaluation Officer” in the organization that housed us together in the same room, her office adjacent to mine.
On October 24, 2023, Ashwaq was martyred in an Israeli airstrike on her husband’s family home.
إِنَّا ِلِلَّٰهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ
Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un
Indeed, we belong to Allah, and indeed, to Him we return.
