The Martyr Poet: Salim Al-Nafar
According to the Lieutenant General, Orabi Kalloub, Poet Salim Al-Nafar was a refugee from Jaffa who resided in Gaza Strip with his wife and children, who tragically perished alongside him. He was deeply connected to the city of Jaffa, where his family roots were entrenched. He consistently referenced Jaffa in his writings, poems, and memories during his forced exile.
Salim Al-Nafar excelled in poetry writing, and one of his poems had been part of the curriculum for middle school students for years. He significantly contributed to depicting the Palestinian cultural scene.
He was known to have endured personal agonies, pains, and the hardship of displacement in exile. His lifelong dream was to return to the accessible part of Palestine, and he finally returned to his homeland through Gaza when the Palestinian Authority entered the occupied territories.
On December 7, 2023.
Salim was martyred, along with his wife, children, brother, his brother’s wife, and their children, following an Israeli airstrike on their apartment in the Al-Nasr neighborhood in Gaza City.
