Martyr Widad Ahmed Hashem

She traveled out of Gaza for the first time in her life to continue her university education. Her wish was to finish her studies and start working. On the day of her graduation, it felt like a wedding.

Her sister says, ‘I cared about her graduation ceremony as if it were mine. Everything she wished for, we made it happen that day. ‘Dodo,’ the beloved of our family, was very tender-hearted. Even though I’m five years older, her mind was as mature as mine. During the war, not a day passed without us talking until the break of dawn because she was afraid of the sounds and rockets. My dear sister, my soul, for 40 days during the war, she never left the house at all. When she finally did, on that day, she seemed in such a rush, as if she was in a hurry for her certificate, along with my husband’s sister. But the despicable occupation killed her in cold blood, extinguishing her dreams and ours alongside.’

Widad was martyred in an Israeli bombardment on Gaza on November 16, 2023.
